Betting Probabilities on Spain against Holland in World Cup Final
Two squads which have never won a World Cup championship will face off in the final on Sunday in World Cup betting as Holland plays Spain in a match that can be viewed on ABC television. The Netherlands has been in the final two times in their history, losing in 1974 and in 1978 while this will be the first-ever appearance for Spain in the final. Spain is a -200 fave at the offshore sportsbook with the total at 2.
Spain was able to get past Germany 1-0 in the semifinals to reach the final while Holland outscored Uruguay 3-2 in the other semifinal. Spain is headed by David Villa while Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder lead the Netherlands. Sneijder and Villa are even for the World Cup goal scoring lead as each player has obtained 5 goals. The Netherlands is the higher scoring squad in the World Cup wagering as they have outscored their competitors 12-5. Spain has performed more of a defensive game as they have outscored opponents in the World Cup by a 7-2 margin.
Spain in fact lost their 1st match 1-0 to Switzerland in this year’s World Cup. They have allowed only 1 goal since that loss. David Villa has landed five of their 7 goals and is even with Sneijder for the Golden Boot. Spain is loaded with expertise and it showed as they entirely owned Germany in the semifinals. The midfield of Spain is basically amazing with Xavi, Iniesta and Xabi Alonso. The defense is extremely great and goalkeeper Iker Casillas is one of the greatest goaltenders in the world. And when Spain needs a goal they have Villa upfront. There aren’t many weaknesses on this Spanish team and they’re a worthy fave.
Holland has been extraordinary in the World Cup odds and except in goals, they’ve got the skill to compete with Spain. The Netherlands has Robben and Sneidjer plus they’ve got a great duo in Nigel de Jong and Mark van Bommel in the middle. Dirk Kuyt and Robin van Persie are not to be overlooked. The problem for the Netherlands is that goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg is not in the class of Casillas. If the game comes down to which goalie makes a crucial save, then Spain probably will have the edge. Alternatively, the Netherlands is the only team in this year’s World Cup not to lose a single game.
This year will be a special one since neither of these nations has ever won the World Cup before. Either the Netherlands or Spain will become the eighth nation to be a part of the pretty brief list of countries that have won the World Cup. If Spain is awarded it, they will become the first team in history to take the World Cup after losing their 1st game. If the Netherlands do, they would be the 1st team since Brazil in 1970 to win every game in the World Cup on the way to the championship. The champ of this match will be making history for their country one way or another.
